News from November Executive

The ACWW South Pacific Area SPA Conference is to be held in New Plymouth, New Zealand from 30 April—3 May 2017. Early bird registrations close on 30 November 2016 and forms can be downloaded from the website

The delegates chosen to attend the SPA Conference on behalf of CWA of NSW are Annette Turner, Joy Granger, Stephanie Stanhope, Annie Keifer and Lorraine Sewell.

A $5,000 donation has been made to help with the running of workshops at the SPA Conference in New Zealand.

New Facebook Group: The CWA of NSW forum will be replaced with a CWA members only closed Facebook Group.

Procedures Manual: Branches and Groups may choose to be responsible for maintaining a hard copy version of the Procedures Manual, or access the information from the CWA website.

New State Committee members have been granted the right to nominate and elect Office Bearers at the AGM immediately following their election to the committee. They no longer need to wait until after their committee AGM to participate in the committee meetings.

The CWA will send $50,000 to New Zealand earthquake victims. An appropriate organisation that supports women and children particularly will be chosen.

A donation of $5,000 will be made to Better Internet for Rural, Regional and Remote Australia (BIRRR). Further details on BIRRR can be found by searching for the BIRRR Facebook page.

The CWA of NSW will co-contribute $1,000 towards an annual scholarship to be set up in the late Mrs Pat Keill’s name with the Commonwealth Day Council.

Education Grants

47 education and one humanitarian grant were awarded, totalling $41,850.

Financial Information

Interest Rates

The interest rates for branches that have loans to the Association (i.e. money invested through State Office) have been reduced by 0.5% as of 1 October 2016.

The new rates will be:

Investment            Term Rate

At call                     3.5%

12 months <$5000  4.5%

12 months >$5000  5.0%

A common question from branches is whether they are able to claim back GST, especially for those branches that carry out major repairs or renovations to the CWA of NSW property they maintain.

While the Association is registered for GST, individual branches are not.

The process involved in claiming back the GST and returning it to the branches is not cost free to the Association and so it is not possible for all branches to claim the GST back. The following will be added to the GST sections of the Procedures Manual (T 1-1-712 & T 5-1-713)

Branches that have an individual invoice with a total of $33,000 (including GST) or more, or that have combined invoices for an individual project with a total $33,000 (including GST) or more, may submit the invoice(s) to State Office to claim the GST back.

Branches wishing to apply for the GST back should send to State Office, all invoices for the project, any documentation regarding any grants the branch may have received to assist with the project with a covering letter explaining why they are being sent.

Fundraising Items

The Fundraising items policy will be extended to cover promotional material as well. State Office will provide guidance on correct colours, fonts and styles to use when developing promotional items.

The CWA of NSW will make a brief submission to the ACCC inquiry into mobile roaming. The submission is to highlight the importance of ongoing support and investment into regional communities and urge the ACCC to take this into account when making a decision on mobile roaming.

Medical Research Projects

The three medical research project items for consideration have been shortlisted. They are:

1. Lyme Disease

2. Motor Neurone Disease

3. Endometriosis

Primary Product

The Primary Product has been chosen for 2017, being Native Finger Lime.

CWA of NSW to establish a relationship with the Australian SOS Fracture Alliance (Stop Osteoporotic Secondary).

Potts Point Grants

Grants were awarded to the following branches: Barellan, Tarcutta, Henty, Mannering Park, Grattai, Gunnedah, Tottenham, Coolamon and Nundle. The specifics of each grant including any particular requirements requested by Executive as a part of the grant will be communicated to each branch separately.

The next round of removal for medium risk asbestos items from CWA properties is to commence as identified in asbestos report.

Show Catering

Volunteer times are 9.15 am to 1.45 pm and 1.30 pm to 6.00 pm. Show dates are 6 – 19 April 2017.

All donated items for the CWA’s Tea Room (with the CWA label listing all ingredients) to State Office – Level 2, 244 Coward Street, Mascot by Friday, 31 March 2017 ready for collection.

State Conference

The Land Cookery, Handicraft and Cultural Committee presentations to be rotated on awards night starting from 2017.

The Executive Committee took into account correspondence sent in relation to the new trial format for Conference in 2018. The CWA will continue with the new three year trial format. Discussions with relevant Committees will be ongoing to ensure that the new format will work with their needs.

Upcoming events/dates

2018 Conference will be hosted by Northern Tablelands Group and to be held in Armidale.
