The Social Issues committee responds to proposed legislation or changes to current legislation being considered by either State or Federal Governments which may affect the association or its members, or family welfare generally. The social issues committee is currently focused on advocating in three key priority areas for members including:

1. Equity of access to services in rural, remote and regional areas. This includes issues related to education (at all levels), health including palliative care and RNs in aged care facilities, telecommunications, public transport and work towards the recognition of Lyme Disease.

2. Regional development and jobs and advocating for government support for these communities to continue to be economically sustainable.

3. Gender equity, including maintenance of access to women’s health services, the establishment of protest exclusion zones around women’s health centres and continued awareness campaigning on the causes and effects of domestic violence”
