Christine Weston of Cumnock has won the 2010 NSW Woman of the Year. Her community are thrilled that her visionary attitude and creative and innovative nature has been recognised at this level. Christine works tirelessly for her community. She developed Cumnock's $1 rent-a-farm project where people were invited to rent a farmhouse for $1 a week. The successful applicants needed do some renovating, have their children go to the local school, and be involved in the community. This brought new people into the area, something small towns have been struggling with. Christine's latest successful project is the Animals On Bikes concept which has seen the creation of 42 farm art sculptures between Molong and Dubbo, to draw tourism traffic through the rural villages of Cumnock & Yeoval. Christine has been a CWA member at Cumnock for over three years and has a passion for the CWA which is often brought up in conversations. Christine will be a guest speaker at the CWA of NSW conference in May, to be held at Port Macquarie. « Back |
